We spent a quiet Christmas at home, the girls enjoyed opening their presents, and it was a laid back affair. To offset that, we decided to go to Barcelona, Spain to bring the New Year.
One thing I have noticed about Europe when trying to book a hotel room for 4 people (even if 2 of them are kids)….most of the time the bed options seem to be either a King sized bed, or 2 TWIN beds. The third option is renting a second room or ensuite. I don’t want any of those options!! So I generally end up looking into apartments to rent.
That was how I happened upon DestinationBCN. I researched them on TripAdvisor and found rave reviews, so thought I would give them a try. It didn’t disappoint!! We got the penthouse apartment (8th floor) of the Urgell location. It ended up be the absolute best place for fireworks.
Thankfully, the apartment building had an elevator. A REALLY, REALLY TINY elevator. All 4 of us could NOT fit in it. MyMan chose to walk up the 8 flights (a total of 160 steps) every time we went out! But the girls loved it!
When you walk in the front door – the view. It was a modern style apartment. The kitchen. It was fully stocked with everything you could need.
The view!! This was a huge sliding door that opened up all the way. It was cool in the evenings, and we had this door open almost all the time. There was safety glass there of course!
We had our own bed and bathroom, which we could close off with large sliding doors and the girls had their own bed/space and bathroom.
There were a total of 3 different private patios and terraces that went with this apartment. This one was right by the front door, and looked out onto the street on the front of the apartment building.
This patio is just off the kitchen. There is also an upper patio as well. The upper one was perfect for watching the fireworks!!
The upper patio.
The view from the front side of the upper patio. The back side of the patio was the same (and even better) view from the sliding glass door off the kitchen.
Between the girls’ Christmas plays (they were each in one), and decorating for the Holidays, and prepping presents, and everything else that goes with the holiday season – unlike the Paris trip, I decided to just wing the Barcelona trip activities. If we wanted to relax, we did. If something sounded like fun, we tried it. And it for the most part it all turned out really great!
